FOLLY GROUP FOUR WHEEL DRIVE

London-based band Folly Group were starting to turn heads before the lockdown and their newest release proves why. Serving as the first ever release on the newly-formed So Young Records, 'Four Wheel Drive' is a bludgeoning interpretation of experimental post-punk at its best. Instantly recognisable as a track that's going to go off live, the guttural bass pulls your insides along with it as percussive beats and 808-inspired samples poke their way through the unrelenting rhythm section, whilst idiosyncratic vocals snarl through the visceral layers unconventional guitar playing. The band’s Sean Harper describes the track well, explaining: “‘Four Wheel Drive’s mechanical chug aims to invoke the feeling of alchemy that occurs when we make music together. It’s a kind of sonic metaphor for our each being part of an engine—together, we each provide a different service in pursuit of the same goal. That goal is whatever kind of good it makes you feel.” -Holly Mullineaux
